Performing Artist Fund – A last chance to support the fund and get a tax deduction

June 10, 2018 by Linda

A message from PIJF Artistic Director, Dr Mace Francis.

We need your help to make PIJF 2018 bigger and better by donating to the PIJF Performing Artist Fund!

Every donation over $2 is tax deductible.

Donations Close 30 June 2018

This year is our sixth year and we want to carry on the legacy of what Graham Wood started, and make it bigger and better for our great city. We are asking you, our audience and our supporters, to help us expand on the visiting guest artist program which will allow us to access more artists to bring to you!

We are aiming to raise $20,000 to bring a greater variety of national and international artists to this festival. It is a great undertaking to bring artists to this fair isolated city of ours, but with every donation it makes our job easier to create the very best festival that this city deserves.

This campaign will receive a matched funding ‘boost’ of $2,000 from Creative Partnerships Australia, provided it raises $2,000 by 30 June 2018. Donate now and help give this project a boost!

DONATE TO THE PERFORMING ARTIST FUND

https://australianculturalfund.org.au/projects/pijf-performing-artist-fund/

Every tax deductible donation will go directly to the artist fund. This will help pay for the artists fees, flights and accommodation. This is the core of the festivals success and longevity and we need you, as our audience and supporters, to work with us to build this festival to something greater than it has already been.

As donations and support comes in over the next few months we will be able to secure artists and announce them. You can follow our progress, from your support at http://www.perthinternationaljazzfestival.com.au/ as well as our Facebook, Twitter https://twitter.com/PerthJazzFest and Instagram https://www.instagram.com/perthjazzfestival/ accounts.

We appreciate your support and thank you for helping us make this festival a success for YOU!

Jazz Against Parkinson’s

November 12, 2017 by Pete Jeavons

Parkinson’s Disease currently affects over 8,000 West Australians, with over 20,000 affected by having a family member living with Parkinson’s. The devastating effects of this disease are felt through out many different West Australian communities, and the WA jazz community is no different.

To help combat the disease and aid those afflicted by it, jazz musician and Treasurer for JAZZWA; Pete Jeavons, has assembled a great line-up of WA jazz groups to perform at this special fundraising event on Tuesday December 12th at The Ellington Jazz Club.

With traditional jazz from The Gumnut Stompers, neo-soul from songstress Shameem and acoustic modern jazz from Pete Jeavons own quintet, “Jazz Against Parkinson’s” features local groups from across the jazz spectrum, side by side, to raise money for Parkinson’s WA.

Presale tickets are available online from: http://www.ellingtonjazz.com.au/event/jazz-against-parkinsons/

For anyone who is not able to make it to this event, but would still like to contribute to the fundraising effort, there is an online fundraising campaign for Parkinson’s WA running concurrently through www.mycause.com.au/page/164577 where any donations would be gratefully received.

New Venue A Winner

November 10, 2016 by Pete Jeavons

Two sax players; Paul Andrews (Fremantle) and Irene de Vocht (Netherlands) met each other a few months ago and were both yearning for a regular, high quality music night in central Fremantle.

Paul Andrews recalls “We wanted to create an atmosphere where people feel at home and a place for the Freo community to sit down, have a drink and a chat and meanwhile enjoy high quality music”.

The result; Automatic Sound Series every Monday night at the Flytrap. A night to meet fellow musicians, enjoy their music and share the stage with them. Also an opportunity for the Fremantle community to discover new music and meet people in a relaxed ambiance.

The night not only provides a platform for established artists/groups, but also for new, young, talented musicians. It has been going for a month and so-far everyone who experiences this little room, loves it. The musical content is very  broad; from electronica, contemporary jazz to minimal, to soundscape, to world music. The Automatic Sound Series has so far been host to some amazing performances from Masonik, the Alex Borthwick Trio, Gemma Farrell’s Quartet, and young trumpeter Matthew McGlynn. Also, many beautiful moments have arisen during the open stage jam sessions.

AUTOMATIC SOUND SERIES on Monday nights 7.30 at the Fly Trap (Victoria Hall) on 179 High Street. Tickets are $10 at the door, all the money goes to the musicians who perform on the night.
