Trumpeter Adrian Hicks currently directs The Oz Big Band, The Metro Big Band as well as playing in a handful of various jazz and contemporary bands around WA. WAAPA trained in Arranging & Composition he also specialises in brass with embouchure and technical difficulties associated with their playing. The Oz Big Band is currently one of the most sort after swing dance bands in Australia due to their authentic feel and energy.
The Oz Big Band is a community based organisation that was established way back in 1984. Today they are the most sort after swing sensation in the land, not only in WA but across the country. Darlings of the Perth's Lindy Hop Dance scene, The Oz Big Band has performed annually at the Hullaballoo Ball since 2006 and invited no less than 4 times in recent years to perform at the Melbourne Lindy Exchange (MLX) in Victoria. Along with performances at many of Perth's prestigious venues including The Ellington Jazz Club, The Perth Town Hall and The Governor's House Ballroom, The Oz Big Band play regularly downtown at The Mustang Bar in Northbridge, making them one of the busiest big bands in the country. Fronted by an exceptional versatile Vocalist, Leah Guelfi and playing styles from early Lunceford and Ellington right through to the modern arrangements of Gordon Goodwin, you will be in for a treat next time you hear the well rehearsed sounds of The Oz Big Band.
